Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports pushes “World Heritage Dhamma Heritage”

Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports pushes “World Heritage Dhamma Heritage” to drive creative tourism in 25 provinces across Thailand, opening a model learning center at Wat Arun Ratchawararam to elevate Thai culture to a quality economy.

Mr. Surasak Pancharoenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, attended and gave a speech on the 1 July 2026 at the ceremony of pouring Thonglor Phra Buddharatanasuk and attended the opening ceremony of the “World Heritage Heritage Project” at Wat Arun Ratchaworamahawihan, Bangkok Yai, Bangkok. The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Aronong Piyanatvachirapat, who represented him at 18.00 hrs.

Mr. Surasak said that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is focusing on the use of cultural capital as an important mechanism to elevate Thai tourism to “Quality Tourism”. Thailand has 5 UNESCO-registered World Cultural Heritage Sites and 6 other cultural heritage sites on the preliminary list, all of which have the potential to be creative tourist destinations that can create sustainable economic value and value.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports said that the Ministry of Tourism has integrated cooperation with the National Research Agency (NSC). Mahachulalongkorn Royal College And Wat Arun Ratchaworamahawihan drives the “World Heritage, Dhamma Heritage” project to connect cultural heritage with Buddhist traditions and ways, creating a valuable tourism experience, coupled with the preservation and continuation of national identity.

“In 2025, the Ministry of Education expanded its operations through a network of engaged management, covering 25 provinces across the country, with the support of the NCPO’s research grants. “We have been working since 2568 to develop knowledge, create creative tourism innovations, and elevate cultural heritage to be a source of learning and quality attractions that can generate income for the community, along with cultivating sentimental value and wisdom for the people,” Mr. Surasak said.

On this occasion, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, along with the executives of the Ministry of Tourism, also participated in a light and sound show under the concept of creative tourism at Wat Arun Ratchaworamahawihan, which reflects the potential of capitalizing on art, culture, religion and history to create a valuable and meaningful tourism experience and driving Thailand to become a global cultural tourism destination.

The opening of the “World Heritage Dhamma Heritage” project is another important step in the integration of cooperation between the government, educational institutions and the religious sector to create a model for the development of creative tourism that connects the cultural, faith and learning dimensions, which will lead to the creation of a strong cultural economy and sustainable development of Thai tourism in the future
